Artist statement

PT

EN

I see my artistic practice as a form of knowledge and self-knowledge, an exploratory tool.

It is a way of experiencing whats around me, whether this is nature or the human relations, for example, and at the same time make my own internal settings visible to those who perceive my works and to myself, assimilating what comes from the outside and materializing what is happening inside

me.
However I want not only to show what I have done during that elaboration process but also to
provoke and interact with those who experience my work, communicating and creating something
that they can be part of and bring life to, which has driven me to experiment with more interactive
media like performance and installation.

Themes rise from my daily life experience and usually become clearer as I transform materials,

multiplying thoughts, feelings, and sensations that I again materialize until a certain constellation
drains out.

During this process new areas of interest arise becoming the fuel for my next research.

Domestic space as a set for memories and actions and the act of seeing and being seen as a

metaphor for personal existence and power relationships, are recurrent “themes” in my works and
have been introduced and materialized in a very intuitive way.

My work has developed in a multidisciplinary direction including thus far works in the areas of

happening, performance, installation, objects and photography, and also drawing and painting
which first have compelled me to art.
Each project often consists of multiple works, in a range ofdifferent media, grouped according to specific themes and meanings.

The mixing of heterogeneous media reflects also my wish to make contrasts visible and the way

how each contrasting item is activated and enhanced when sided by the other, exposing their
differences and similarities exploring opposites like high culture and low culture, occidental an
eastern, museum and home, History and private history, ancient art and contemporary art, old and
new, art and nature.

In my recent work I’ve been exploring previously existing territories using tridimensional

recreations of domestic spaces as devices for the display of existing objects either created by me
in a past time or by someonelse.

I want to continue exploring the ability that domestic objects,

spaces and display devices used in our houses, like cabinets, shelves, walls and showcases, have
of evoking emotions, atmospheres and meanings and the appeal they can have to us all because
they are part of a common experience of the household.

Doing this I also aim to expose and explore the inevitable contrast that arises when the domestic space enters the neutral gallery space transforming it into something more cosy and amiable and at the same time turning the domestic space into something a little more unfamiliar and strange, conferring it levels of interpretation other than the usual.
