Nasceu em 1976.
Vive e trabalha em Lisboa como artista plástica e formadora
de desenho artístico no Nextart-Centro de Formação Artística.
Licenciada em Artes Plásticas na ESAD (Escola Superior
de Arte e Design) das Caldas da Rainha, realizou o programa Erasmus no
Departamento de Artes Plásticas da Kunsthøgskolen i Bergen, na Noruega, onde
posteriormente desenvolveu um projecto de investigação com uma bolsa do
Conselho de Investigação da Noruega.
Como artista plástica tem realizado um trabalho multidisciplinar
que inclui a Pintura, o Desenho, a Performance, a Instalação e a Escrita.
Encontra-se neste momento a desenvolver os seus projectos Materiais de Construção e Auto Retrato Múltiplo. Ambos os
projectos foram apresentados pela
primeira vez na conferência Territórios
identitários de Rita Carmo integrada no Ciclo de conferências
As Mulheres e a Arte na
Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Em 2020, em plena quarentena, para poder dedicar-se totalmente ao seu trabalho artístico e como forma de entrar no ciclo da
produção e divulgação de arte de forma autónoma, criou as residências artísticas “Se
perguntarem por mim diz que estou no Tahiti!” (Parte I e II) e a Galeria Mergulho-Projeto independente em espaço doméstico. Neste momento
encontra-se à procura de apoios e de espaços de exposição para continuar a
desenvolver e mostrar o trabalho realizado neste contexto.
Em 2023 a sua obra Camuflagem #1 foi selecionada pelo júri da Open Call Jogo do Sério, lançada pelo Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra, para dialogar com a obra Estore de Nuno Sousa Vieira.
Desde 2005 tem realizado exposições individuais das quais se
destacam: Materiais de Construção: Ensaio Aberto #2 na Galeria Mergulho, Parede; O Passado está Presente no Espaço 62, em Lisboa; Prête moi ta plûme pour écrir'amour no Ateneu do Catorze, São Luis; Materiais de Construção: Ensaio aberto #1 na Galeria Mergulho em Lisboa; Um Quarto Só Dela, na
Galeria Municipal de Torres Vedras e How
Things Grow and Transform Themselves Into Other Separate Things em Bergen
na Noruega.
Tem também participado em exposições colectivas, das quais
se destacam: Jogo do Sério com Nuno Sousa Vieira no MUSEU do Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra; Duplo(s) na Galeria Sumo Preto, Quinze Pintores no palácio do Correio Velho, Nonstopopening na Galeria Zé dos Bois, em Lisboa, e Galeria
dos 30 Dias nas Caldas da Rainha, esta última em colaboração com Pedro
Barateiro.
Em 2016 criou a ilustração para a divulgação do espectáculo Por esse Mundo Fora de Márcia Lança e
Nuno Lucas no Teatro Maria Matos e em 2019 foi convidada por Mácia Lança para
fazer a cenografia do seu espectáculo “Dentro do Coração”, produzido e estreado
no teatro LU.CA em Lisboa a Outubro desse mesmo ano.
Em 2015 iniciou a sua
formação em Escrita Criativa com Carlota Gonçalves no Nextart-Centro de
Formação Artística, tendo editado de forma independente as publicações Elisa Abriu um Olho, Escolhas Preciosas: Nos domínios da
Mulher-Rocha, Notas para a Construção
do Amor, Eduardo e O Dia de Maria, entre
outras.
Como formadora lecciona os cursos de Desenho I, II, III e IV
e de Retrato, tendo iniciado a sua actividade no Nextart-Centro de formação
artística em 2013 no curso de Desenho

Graduated in Fine Arts at ESAD (Higher School of Art and Design) in Caldas da Rainha, she completed the Erasmus program at the Fine Arts Department at Kunsthøgskolen i Bergen, Norway, where she subsequently developed a research project with a grant from the Research Council from Norway.
As an artist, she has been creating a multidisciplinary work that includes Painting, Drawing, Performance, Installation and Writing.
She is currently developing her projects Materiais de Construção(Building Materials) and Auto Retrato múltiplo(Multiple Self Portrait). Both projects were presented for the first time at the Rita Carmo identity territories conference integrated in the cycle of conferences Women and Art at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Since 2005 she has held solo exhibitions, of which the following stand out: Um Quarto Só Dela, at the Torres Vedras Municipal Gallery and How Things Grow and Transform Themselves Into Other Separate Things in Bergen, Norway.
She has also participated in collective exhibitions, of which the following stand out: Double (s) in the Sumo Preto Gallery, Fifteen Painters in the Correio Velho palace, Nonstopopening in the Zé dos Bois Gallery, in Lisbon, and the 30 Days Gallery in Caldas da Rainha, this the latter in collaboration with Pedro Barateiro.
In 2016 she created the illustration for the promotion of the show Por esse Mundo Fora by Márcia Lança and Nuno Lucas premiered at Teatro Maria Matos and in 2019 she was invited by Mácia Lança to set the scene for her show Dentro do Coração, produced and premiered at the theater LU.CA in Lisbon in October last year.
In 2015 she started her training in Creative Writing with Carlota Gonçalves at the Nextart-Artistic Training Center, having independently edited the publications Elisa Abriu um Olho, Precious Choices: In the domains of Mulher-Rocha, Notes for the Construction of Love, Eduardo and O Dia de Maria, among others.
Rita Carmo
Born in 1976.
Lives and works in Lisbon as an artist and trainer of artistic design at Nextart-Centro de Formação Artística.
In full quarantine, and as a way to dedicate herself totally to her artistic practice and to enter in the art production cycle without needing external validation she created the artistic residencies Se perguntarem por mim diz que estou no Tahiti! “If someone asks for me, tell them I'm in Tahiti” (Part I and II). She is currently looking for support and exhibition spaces to continue to develop and show the work done in this context.
As a trainer, she teaches the Drawing, I, II, III and IV and Portrait courses, having started her activity at the Nextart-Center for artistic training in 2013 in the Drawing Outside the Room course.
Sings since 2018 with the Vocal Jazz and Tal Group directed by Maestro Paulo Brandão.
